It’s our self confidence that usually lets our self image down. We will set out to achieve an objective but find that we have ‘bitten off more than we could chew’ and have to reluctantly admit defeat, hoping that not too many people have noticed.
We want to creep away and hide. Pretend we’re not here and hide our embarrassment, our shame, our humiliation. We wish to be invisible!
However, often we find ourselves in a vicious circle with the level of our self confidence affecting our self image which then undermines our confidence, etc. etc. So round and round we go, reducing our level of expectation every time until we get to the point we are ‘playing safe’ or totally giving up!
So how can we break this cycle of debilitating thought to start rebuilding our confidence levels and improve our self image? To begin to start being proud of our achievements again and build ourselves up. To be successful in business, especially in internet marketing where much of our work is completed alone, where we need to have bundles of self confidence and an excellent self image.
Firstly, we must identify the main blockage. What is holding us back? What are we continually failing at?
The chances are that it is a weakness of ours. Something we are not well practiced in or that we don’t really like or understand. If this is the case then stop doing it! Concentrate on something you enjoy doing, something you can do well, something you can confidently achieve.
In other words, find a strength!
Now work on that strength and improve it even more. Work at it. Study how others do it. Even seek a mentor. Invest in it.
Now before you quit reading further and dismiss my theory saying that surely we should concentrate on developing our weaknesses rather than our strengths, just hear me out a little longer.
Supposing you were to score your weakness on a range of 1 to 10, where 1 was useless and 10 was excellent, and awarded yourself a 2. Now, you worked on that weakness, investing time and money so that, over time, you managed to double your competence. Now your weakness is a 4.
After all that investment; the late night tutorials, the endless reading, the mistakes, your weakness is still below average!
However, if you were to invest in a similar manner in one of your strengths, which was an 8, a very different outcome would result. Doubling an 8 gives you 16, which on a scale of 10 is totally off the the chart! You are an expert! Others will look to you for inspiration and advice.
You have become a ‘guru’!
Do you understand my thinking? Have I explained it clear enough?
It’s a concept I have only recently had the ‘light bulb’ moment myself. We need to focus on what we already know what to do, and FOCUS. Master the competency before even considering another skill to develop. It will become your golden nugget.
Remember the power of networking. We don’t need to be able to do everything. Others will have have strengths and skills we do not. Use the network. When you become Master others will come to you. FOCUS.
So how’s your self confidence now? Is your self image improving? Do you consider you have a way to break that circle of doom and failure?
Focus on your strengths. Refine them. Invest in them.
Walk tall with strong self confidence and an excellent self image!
