I expect you’ve heard the expression ‘when the going gets tough, the tough get going’. The ‘tough’ have spent time setting a goal. They have asked themselves the Five Solid Gold Questions starting with ‘What is my No.1 priority?’.
Your goals need frequent, ideally daily, visits to ensure you know where you are going and why. Is what you’re doing now helping you achieve your goal? Your chosen goal needs to take over your thoughts and drive your actions. You need a direction to travel otherwise circles will be all you’ll travel in!
I recently had a real downer of a day when everything seemed to be crashing around me and I felt I was failing BIG time. I very nearly went under and felt like totally giving up but I reminded myself of my goals, my dreams and the priorities in my life. I began to pull myself up and put myself back on the road to achievement. Achievement of my original goals – not new, easier ones.
It’s important, especially when running your own business, to be able to set your goal or strategy and keep to it. It’s good to have a mentor, someone who’s been that way before. Someone who you can confide in and trust. Someone to remind you of your goal, to stop you from being distracted and starting down a different path because it looks easier or quicker.
Success is not cheap nor easy. We often only see ‘success’ without recognising that it’s the fruition of much hard work and dedication. Like a violinist making their instrument sing telling a story who started off many years previously as a youngster ‘killing the cat’!
So, have you managed setting a goal that means something to you? Have you visualised it and placed reminders for yourself? Will you be one of the tough that get going and achieve?
Make a start and commit to yourself by writing your goal in the comments box below. You’ll have told the world you’re setting off. I’ll look forward to seeing you on the way to success!
